Manchester City officials haven't ruled out Roberto Mancini taking over from Mark Hughes next season, it has been revealed.
The People says senior City officials and agents representing Mancini are scheduled to have a meeting this week.
The news will be a major blow to Hughes who hoped to escape the axe this summer.
Now, though, it's clear City are exploring different options - with Mancini's advisors flying in for high-level talks.
There was talk of Hughes being given the green light to carry on with the proviso that City must be making a strong top six challenge by next Christmas.
But that scenario now seems unlikely if City are keen to see what Mancini has to offer. It's also understood Frank Rijkaard is a name being mentioned in City's corridors of power.
