Man City chief Soriano pleased to re-sign van 't Schip at Melbourne Heart

A-League club Melbourne Heart have announced the signing of John van 't Schip as their new head coach.

The Dutchman, who was the Heart's coach in their first two years in Australia's top flight, took over as caretaker boss in January when John Aloisi was sacked.

After failing to win in 17 games in a row under Aloisi, the Heart have saluted six times in 11 fixtures with van 't Schip at the helm which has prompted the club to sign him on a three-year deal.

Heart CEO Ferran Soriano, who doubles as chief of the club's new owner Manchester City, was delighted to confirm that van 't Schip had agreed to a new contract.

"We are very happy that John van't Schip will remain Head Coach of Melbourne Heart FC," Soriano said in a statement.

"Playing good football is at the centre of our plans for the future of the Club and John has already demonstrated his ability to help us achieve that ambition."

Former Ajax and Genoa winger van 't Schip, who has also managed FC Twente and the Amsterdam giants, added: "I'm delighted to have been appointed Head Coach.

"The Club is well positioned for the future and I am excited to be working with Brian and [Manchester City Director of Football] Txiki Begiristain in the lead-up to 2014-15 season.

"My current focus is to finish this season as strongly as possible, beginning with our next game against Central Coast Mariners this Sunday."
