Man City charged with misconduct by FA for Liverpool penalty protests

Manchester City have been hit with a misconduct charge by the FA.

City failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion early in the second half of Sunday's eventual 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Players surrounded referee Michael Oliver after he awarded the Reds a penalty when Gael Clichy clattered into Roberto Firmino in the area, with James Milner stepping up to convert from the spot.

A statement from the FA read: "Manchester City have been charged with misconduct after the game against Liverpool on Sunday [19 March 2017].

"It is alleged that in or around the 50th minute of the fixture, the club failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion."

City have until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.
