Man City into Champions League Round of 16

Manchester City have progressed to the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time after beating CSKA Moscow 5-2 on Tuesday night.

The Eastlands club ensured their path through to the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition thanks to a hat-trick from Alvaro Negredo and a brace from Sergio Aguero, taking their points tally to nine from four matches, which has them six clear of CSKA and three behind group leaders Bayern Munich.

Aguero opened the scoring in the third minute from the penalty spot before adding a second with a shapr effort on the turn after 20 minutes.

Negredo made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark when he slotted home a pass from Aguero before Seydou Doumbia pulled one back for CSKA on the stroke of half-time.

City restored their three-goal advantage through Negredo early in the second half, prior to Doumbia's 71st minute penalty for the visitors, before Negredo completed his treble by heading a late James Milner cross.

City will now get set to take on bottom-placed Viktoria Plzen on November 27 in their next European fixture.
