Man City captain Kompany intent on being fully prepared for new season

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany returned to pre-season training on Tuesday and is immediately looking ahead to the new campaign.

The 29-year-old centre-back was disappointed at relinquishing the Premier League title to Chelsea last term and is desperate to start next season fully prepared for an assault on the premiership.

"I didn't want to get into the first day without being prepared for it," Kompany told Sky Sports. "You don't want to miss the opportunity to be at your best when you are in your best years.

"We are an ambitious club and you cannot be at an ambitious club without being ambitious yourself. For me it is a reflection of that.

"But then again it is not my aim to peak too early. I don't need to be man of the match in pre-season games. I have got a month to go and it will just be a steady build-up from now."
