Manchester City go into their NextGen clash with Marseille full of confidence.

City thumped Manchester United over the weekend.

Coach Andy Welsh told the club's website: "We were terrific in the derby - we defended well, played the ball well and had a cutting edge going forward. Denis Suarez was excellent, and we're hoping he'll do the same against Marseille."

Wednesday's kick off in the South of France heat has been switched from afternoon to 6pm, "which we're a lot happier with," admitted the Blues coach.

He added: "The first away trip is another step in their development. It's like a Champions League game for them, they have to go out and produce on a difficult night with the crowd against them.

"I can see the competition developing next season. It certainly deserves to. We're testing our young players against the best in Europe - whether we qualify or not, it brings enormous benefits."
