Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says a new deal for Edin Dzeko is close. He has just 10 months left on his existing deal but Pellegrini admitted the player is likely to stay with the club.
Pellegrini was asked if he had signed a new deal and he said: "Yes - I don't think it's 100% finished - but yes he will renew his contract. He's a very important player for us.
"It's not strange for me to see him play like that - he finished last season playing very well. He has grown. He's a team player. I'm very happy for him. That's why he is renewing his contract here - he has a very important duty in our team.
"Edin finished last season playing very well and today he was one of our best players, not just because of the way he created the first goal and worked but he won a lot of headers and duels and held the ball up well. It was a complete performance. He has started the season where he left off last season."
