Man City boss Pellegrini puts style ahead of trophies

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says he'll put entertaining football ahead of winning trophies.

Pellegrini insists he's not desperate to deliver silverware to his City paymasters.

"It's not my first thought to win a trophy," said the former Real Madrid boss. "It is to play the way I think is the best way to win a trophy.

"For me, what I did at Villarreal and Malaga - and I'm talking about me personally, not the fans - has more importance than to win a title with a big team. It's more difficult to take Villarreal to a semi or quarter-final of the Champions League than to win the title with an important team.

"I'm not trying to win trophies. I'm trying to win every Sunday or every Saturday. After we add up the points, we see who has won the title or the cup or the Champions League.

"The first trophy we can win in the Capital One Cup because it's finished before the others. Nothing more."
