Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini stands by his decision to send Gareth Barry on-loan to Everton.

Pellegrini has effectively granted Barry a free transfer, with his contract due to expire in June.

"I spoke to him during the preseason. For his position, I had four players: Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Jack Rodwell and Javi García. It was not good for him to stay. He understood that, so he left for Everton, no problem, " shrugged Pellegrini.
