Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says it's a battle to sign top English talent.
City have been criticised for ramming their squad with foreigners, with keeper Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Jack Rodwell and James Milner currently the only homegrown players.
But Pellegrini acknowledges how difficult it is to bring in English players from other Premier League rivals.
Pellegrini said: "It's not the first time I have been asked the question. We have a very important squad and it's not easy to buy English players - important players in the England squad.
"If you want to buy a player from Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea I don't know how much it would cost.
"And I'm sure the teams will not sell.
"It's a high cost and we now have the rules of Financial Fair Play so it will be more difficult to pay more money for players and to play here we need high quality."
