Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini wants Martin Demichelis to be offered new terms.
The former Bayern Munich star was initially signed on a two-year deal, and was seen as a stop-gap until Pellegrini could bring in a new centre-half.
But, despite the £40m purchase of Eliaquim Mangala in the summer, Demichelis has continued to show his worth.
Said Pellegrini: "He will finish his contract at the end of the season. I think he's a very important player for us and I hope that he will soon start his talks about a new contract, and that they will conclude in the right way."
