Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has thrown down the gauntlet at strikers Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli.
Mancini is looking to see who is going to present the most compelling case to partner Carlos Tevez.
"Mario and Edin are both fantastic talents but it does take a bit of time for new players from abroad to settle in," said Mancini's assistant Brian Kidd.
"Edin has come to us in January - in an ideal world you'd get him in the summer, with more time to bed in.
"Mario has had a problem with his knee but it appears everything has been sorted now.
"From what he and Edin are producing on the training field, I feel both will make an impact from now until the end of the season."
