Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is happy playing a waiting game for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner.

Former Hamburg centre-back Jerome Boateng signed a five-year deal to join the Blues from Hamburg for £11m on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who has now joined up with his country's World Cup squad in South Africa, will officially become a City player on July 1.

It completes Mancini's first piece of summer transfer business - but he is fully aware he will have to be patient to get the rest done, says the Manchester Evening News.

A renewed push for England midfielder Milner - for whom the Blues had a £20m bid turned down by Aston Villa two-and-a-half weeks ago - is likely to come after the World Cup.

For now, though, Mancini is pleased to have started the ball rolling on his rebuilding programme.
