Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was making a check on several transfer targets in Italy on the weekend.

Mancini attended Sampdoria's thumping win over AS Roma, where he confirmed his admiration for Samp striker Mauro Icardi.

However, TMW says the Italian was also running the rule over two Roma youngsters - winger Erik Lamela and defender Marquinos.

Young defender Marquinos attracted an enquiry from City last month, which was given short shrift by Roma officials.
