Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says they must be serious about buying big in the summer.
He is convinced he has the backing of chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
Mancini rapped: "Tinkering! I do not know what this means. I have spoken to Khaldoon and he understands what this squad needs for next year.
"He knows that if you are playing in the Champions League in midweek you need 11 good players.
"Then if you are playing in a tough game in the Premier League at the weekend, you need to change those players.
"Look at Manchester United. They can play 11 men in a Champions League semi-final and then change nearly all those players for the next league game.
"We don't want to be like Tottenham this year, who put all their energy into the Champions league and after that lost league points.
"We have improved 200 per cent in one year but now are being asked to play the likes of Barcelona and beat them.
"City needs to improve. We need to buy other good players and, on top of that, some young players, who, during the year can get better and then come into the first team."
