Inter Milan have thanked Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini for tipping them off over McDonald Mariga. City were all set to sign the Kenya international from Parma, only for the 22-year-old to be refused a work permit.
Inter's first-team coach Gabriele Oriali has confirmed Mancini tipped off the Nerazzurri after they missed out on his signature.
"Manchester City were very interested in Mariga but they had problems and we know it thanks to Roberto Mancini," said Oriali.
"He called us because the Home Office denied the transfer of the player.
"Then we threw ourselves at once to close the deal with the player as soon as possible.
"We are all very happy, the rating is part of all: the club, the chairman and the coach."
It remains to be seen whether City move again for Mariga in future when he qualifies for an English work permit.
