Man City boss: Kompany will be out for a long, long time

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has ruled out defender Vincent Kompany for a significant period of time.

The Belgian defender underwent surgery after suffering a complete tear of a thigh muscle in the Champions League game against Real Madrid and is expected to take at least four months to recover from the procedure.

Regarding Kompany remaining with City, Pellegrini insisted it was now out of his hands as the club prepares to bring in Pep Gaurdiola in place of the Chilean this summer.

"I cannot talk about the future of this club because it is not my duty. But Vincent Kompany has had surgery in his muscles," he said.

"I don't know how many months he will be out but it will be a long, long time.

"But there is nothing more on that because at this moment it is very difficult to know about his injury and what will happen in the future."
