Manchester City are intensifying their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.

Former Manchester United striker Forlan has been prolific for both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, and netted his 28th La Liga goal of the season from the penalty spot recently as Atletico beat Valencia.

City manager Mark Hughes and chief executive Garry Cook were both in attendance, also casting their eye over David Villa, but Villa is more likely to join Barcelona this summer prompting City to target Forlan.

The Mirror says Atletico have placed a £20m valuation on Forlan's head, which Hughes considers far too steep and he is hoping Forlan will attempt to persuade the Spanish side to lower their asking price.
