Man City boss Hughes following Villa as example

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes says Aston Villa is a good example of where he'd like to take the club.

Hughes told City's website: "We're two different clubs in different circumstances, but it's the same old story really - it does take time to achieve something.

"Martin has had three seasons there to build. You need to have the time, continuity of staff, an understanding of what you've got. It's not an easy process and it's not something that can be addressed very quickly.

"Martin has had the time and it shows. He's been able to assemble a good team that is similar to successful sides that he has had in the past.

"Our owners are businessmen who also understand how football works. They know it's a case of everything in stages, and they are looking for a steady progression.

"There will be a time when we say, 'yes, we are ready now, we can be judged.' But we are not at that point yet."
