Man City boss Guardiola has advice for Neville: Take a day off, pal!

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has dismissed criticism from Manchester United legend Gary Neville over his handling of Phil Foden.

Neville claimed that Foden would have got more first-team opportunities at United, due to their tradition of blooding youth team products, and that the Stockport-born lad was at the 'wrong club'.

Guardiola retorted: “Which is the right club? It's a question to Gary Neville.

“My history is there. I'm not going to put young players in the squad because they are young. They will be in the squad because they have quality. I don't have problems with that.

“The club is working well in terms of the academy. There are many players with good prospects for the future.

“We will be patient with those guys. They are going to train with us most, or part of, the season."

And Guardiola saved his barbed comment for the last, saying of Neville – who lasted four months at Valencia in his only management appointment: “I thought even the journalists in the summertime were on holidays but I realise he is not."
