Armed with a £30 million warchest, Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is ready to push through a January deal for Villarreal midfield ace Juan Roman Riquelme.
New City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has already bankrolled a £38m summer spending spree, which saw Eriksson overhaul the club.
Shinawatra is loving the results and that is why he wants to invest more heavily in what could be a special season at Eastlands.
Eriksson insisted he will be going only for top- quality performers.
He said: "We'll have to be very careful.
"If we want to buy someone, it has to be someone who will make this team better. And the better we play, the more difficult it is to find players who can do that.
"It won't be shopping like it was in August. But this international break is also very useful to have a look at players who are involved with their national sides as well."
