Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is confident Micah Richards will soon sign his new contract.

Eriksson, who is hopeful of making two additions before the transfer deadline, admits that the focus of his recent discussions with Alistair Mackintosh, the club's chief executive, has been on recruitment rather than rewarding those already at City but, with a meeting between Richards's father, Lincoln, and the club scheduled for today, the manager believes developments are imminent.

That also depends on whether City are able to increase their offer of £47,000 a week to £55,000, but Richards is thought to be keen to stay.

Eriksson said: "Every time I speak to the owners and Alistair, it has not been about Micah Richards signing. The shopping window has been so busy and difficult, but I think that after Thursday we have time to do what we maybe should have done before."
