Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has pleaded with chairman Thaksin Shinawatra for funds to spend big in January.

Eriksson said: "If you don't have money it is difficult to compete with the better half of the Premier League.

"We hope to do that to the end of the season and maybe something will happen in January so we can try to be better."

City host Blackburn tomorrow night with Rovers on a run of just one win in nine. Boss Mark Hughes said: "Frustration is the word as far as we are concerned.

"It would be easy to feel sorry for ourselves but the opposite is the case."
