Former Manchester City star Niall Quinn believes manager Manuel Pellegrini's belief finally paid dividends in the 2-1 win against Borussia Monchengladbach.
City survived a number of attacks from the German side at Borussia Par, including a penalty, before winning the game in the 90th minute through Sergio Aguero's penalty.
Despite City's defensive frailties, they managed to record a much-needed group stage victory which Quinn felt was deserved for manager Pellegrini.
Quinn said on Sky Sports: "[Pellegrini] could have been forgiven for taking the mentality, given Wolfsburg had broken several times, of shutting up shop, but he believed and he's got his rewards.
"A big pat on the back for Pellegrini."
