Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart admits his England breakthrough came thanks to Birmingham City.
Hart's emergence has meant that England owe a debt to an unlikely source - a Scotsman. Birmingham manager Alex McLeish took Hart on loan last season and after an indifferent start, flourished.
"I can't stress how important that time was," said Hart. "If I had been sitting on my bum that would have done nothing for anyone - not for Birmingham, not for City and not for me."
