Man City ahead of Chelsea as Barcelona warn Dani Alves over contract demands

With Chelsea and Manchester City monitoring developments, Barcelona have warned Daniel Alves they will not pay over the odds to secure him to a new contract. The calls from Barca fans to re-sign Alves have grown louder since his five-star performance in Monday's El Clasico. But Marca says Alves is set to be disappointed with demands he be paid the same €6 million salary as teammates Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu warned: "We will not break the wage structure of the squad."

With his contract expiring in 2012, Alves is on the radar of Chelsea, however it is City which have shown the strongest interest in the Brazilian thus far.
