Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is up for the African Player of the Year award.
Ivory Coast midfielder Toure claimed the gong last year and will be among the favourites once more after playing a starring role as Manchester City became English champions for the first time in 44 years.
Toure's compatriots Gervinho and Didier Drogba was also shortlisted.
And while Gervinho has had a quiet year at club level with Arsenal, Drogba scored the winning penalty as his former club Chelsea won the Champions League for the first time against Bayern Munich.
Drogba subsequently joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.
