Man City ace Aguero backed by Otamendi to overcome stuttering start

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi has backed teammate Sergio Aguero to become a regular on the scoresheet once again.

The Argentine netted a match-winning penalty against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday and Otamendi feels it could be the start of a positive run for his compatriot.

Aguero has so far struggled this season to find the goal-scoring form that saw him find the back of the net 31 times in all competitions last campaign.

The Argentine has only scored one goal from open play in 10 appearances this season, while also failing to convert a handful of gilt-edged chances.

However, Otamendi is optimistic Aguero is on the verge of rediscovering the form which has made him one of the Premier League's most lethal strike weapons.

"A top player like Sergio always focus on themselves and forget about any mistakes," Otamendi said.

"His main goal is to be a threat in the opposition area. He showed a lot of confidence taking the penalty and that's what we expect of him. He is a key player for us.

"But it's not only about Sergio - we must not forget the rest of the attacking players. We also have (Kevin) De Bruyne) and (Raheem) Sterling, players who in these kind of moments make the difference."
