Manchester City academy chief Mark Allen admits they're serious about winning the UEFA Youth League next season.
City reached the semifinals last term.
Allen told the Manchester Evening News: "We had a chance to win the competition last season, and four or five years ago I might not have said that. It's a recognition that technically we are not inferior to any team.
"It's about waiting for our time, because I feel the programme will bear fruit and the quality of players we are producing will be able to play on the biggest stage.
"We were quite young - people saw us beat Bayern 6-0 but a number of those boys were second-year scholars and will be eligible to play in the competition again, alongside boys who last year were first-year scholars and were in the squad.
"Players like Brandon Barker and Thierry Ambrose were in the squad last year and hopefully will play this year.
"They have had a taste of it and that is part of the nurturing and development to get them ready for that environment.
"In any given year you will have a team more capable of winning than other years, purely by where they are on the development scale. I don't know if this is the year - we will see, but we will certainly be prepared when the competition comes around."
