Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to go to the final minute tonight in order to prise Luka Modric away from Tottenham. Despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's insistence that Modric is not for sale, Abramovich is refusing to accept defeat and Chelsea sources say he will fight right to the transfer deadline at 11pm tonight to land the Croatia international.
After seeing the way Manchester United and Manchester City performed on Sunday, Abramovich knows his team lacks an extra creative spark and after spending the entire summer pursuing Modric, is desperate not to let down Blues fans by failing to sign the Spurs ace today.
Modric desperately wants the move to happen, but knows Abramovich would have to get closer to £35 million to convince Levy to sell. Florent Malouda could be included to bring down the cash component.
