Malaysian government row over Cardiff sponsorship

Cardiff City's potential sponsorship agreement with the Malaysian Tourism Board has come under severe criticism.

Opposition MP Hee Loy Sian alleged that a potential part sponsorship deal of the Bluebirds by the government's ministry of tourism costing £3m was "wasteful" and would not result in sufficient extra tourists visiting Malaysia to make the cost worthwhile, reports the Western Mail.

In a written reply to the opposition MP, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said the kit sponsorship deal was undertaken as Premiership broadcasts reached a global audience of 720m people across 80 media partners.

The Minister revealed the deal was worth £7.35m in total, but the ministry was contributing less than half that amount.
