Maguire to stay at Aberdeen and fight for selection

Chris Maguire will not be leaving Aberdeen in January if he fails to break into Mark McGhee's starting line-up. Striker Maguire started his first Dons game since the opening day of the season in the 1-1 Clydesdale Bank Premier League draw at Kilmarnock almost two weeks ago.

Reports at the weekend suggested the 20 year old felt McGhee had made him the scapegoat for that. But the player told Red Matchday magazine: "I've never said I wanted to leave the club in January - and I made it clear I don't have any problems with the manager.

"All I've said is that I want to start every game, which is all that any player wants. If I didn't feel like that, then the manager would think there was something wrong with me.

"I know it's up to me to put myself in his plans, and that's what I'm looking to do over the next few weeks. It's as simple as that."
