Carlisle United starlet Gary Madine has resisted Premiership interest to sign a pro deal with the Cumbrians.

The 17-year-old striker is considered one of the brightest prospects at the club and has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League champions Manchester United and Newcastle.

Madine scored 27 times for the club's youth and reserve teams last season and made his first-team debut at the end of last season.

He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "It's nice to have the security and I'm looking forward to next season. I don't think a move to a big club at this stage of my career would be right for me."
