There is fury in Cristiano Ronaldo's home town of Funchal after his statue was vandalised by Lionel Messi fans.

The Real Madrid star's statue has had 'Messi 10' painted across it.

The bust of the Real Madrid player was altered with red paint with Messi and a number 10 daubed on the back of the life-size work. The act has been widely denounced and a clean-up operation is under way to remove the offending paint tonight.

Cristiano's sister Katia Aveiro criticized the perpetrators stating, "This is a disgraceful act of vandalism in itself but just shows the levels of jealousy that exist. As a Portuguese citizen it embarrasses and saddens me. This island is clearly still inhabited by savages who have no respect and don't know how to live in a respectable society."
