Mad Dog backs Liverpool boss Rodgers over Manc ref complaints

Former QPR star Martin Allen has backed Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers' rant about Lee Mason being in charge for their defeat at Manchester City.

Mad Dog wrote in the Daily Mail: "Lee Mason shouldn't have been reffing Liverpool's match against Manchester City. I agree with Brendan Rodgers when he went off on one afterwards - because the ref comes from... Greater Manchester. What's that all about?

"Poor refereeing decisions can be very frustrating and it can cost you your job. Generally the professionalism of training and the coaching of referees is far better than when I used to play.

"They're constantly analysed and reviewed, they're fitter and they're now far more professional.

"Now every decision is scrutinised and sometimes we look at it from three different angles, we look at it in slow motion, and sitting on your armchair you still cant work out what happened.

"You're still not sure if it was offside or onside, whether it was inside the box or outside the box, whether it crossed the line or didn't.

"It really is a no-win job. With the speed of the game now, it's a thankless task.

"As far as I'm aware Rodgers has never made a derogatory comment about referees. In the media he's not interested in not playing those Jose Mourinho-type mind games, trying to put pressure on refs prior to matches."
