Mackie keen for regular QPR starting berth

QPR striker Jamie Mackie is hoping his second goal of the season against Aston Villa will earn him a regular starting berth under new boss Harry Redknapp. "I just love playing football and I said to the manager I will play wherever he picks me," Mackie told the club's website.

"I was delighted to get the chance to play up front.

"I worked hard, got my goal and it's just a shame we couldn't convert the numerous chances we created to take all the three points because we desperately need wins at the moment.

"On the plus side, it's two games undefeated under the new manager and hopefully we can go on a little run now and start climbing the table.

"The manager has come in and given the lads a boost. He's a great man manager and the players are enjoying working for him.

"We've had a few good sessions on the training pitches with the new boss and the more we get to work with him, the better we'll get."

Mackie believes the character QPR showed in coming from behind against Villa suggests they avoid relegation.

"We conceded early," he said. "It was a good strike from the lad but probably a bit sloppy from us as a team.

"We got back in the game, which showed great character given the run we're on. After that I thought we were the only team in it to be honest."
