Fiorentina claim PSG midfielder Marco Verratti was pushing for a move to Florence over the summer.
Verratti penned a new deal with PSG last month.
"The desire mainly came from him," club technical director Eduardo Macia told the Corriere Fiorentino.
"It almost placed us into some difficulty given the reality of our club. He really liked the identity of Fiorentina and how we play.
"At a certain point he became another dream for us which we tried to make real."
