Current Aston Villa caretaker Kevin MacDonald has told club owner Randy Lerner that he wants the job for keeps.
MacDonald has stepped in since Martin O'Neill's shock departure on the eve of the season and overall has done a positive job so far.
He has notified the club that he is keen to land the role on a full-time basis and will now be interviewed with all other candidates, including Everton boss David Moyes.
