Departing Aston Villa caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald says Rafa Gonzalez's promotion as senior goalkeeping coach is a good move by Gerard Houllier.
MacDonald believes seeing Brad Friedel make a host of top-class saves in the opening weeks of the season is evidence of Gonzalez's influence.
He told Villa's website: "I am delighted for Rafa.
"He's been very good in the six weeks. I have known him previously but in the time he's been working with me and the first team, he's been very good.
"He has good rapport with the players and obviously he's doing good things with Brad because Brad's performances over the past few weeks have been outstanding.
"Rafa has a real enthusiasm for the game."
