Maccarone targets Siena stay

Siena striker Massimo Maccarone insists they can beat the drop this season.

Maccarone hit the winner against Fiorentina on the weekend and declared: "We are satisfied with yesterday's result against Fiorentina, but we are still not out of the relegation struggle.

"The victory has given us a morale boost and we are calmer, but we can never relax because if we lose two games we will be sucked back down to the bottom.

"The number of points needed for safety changes from year to year, but generally between 35 and 40 are enough.

"It will depend on the results the other sides obtain but, come May, we should be alright as long as we reach the 40 mark."

Of his own future, the ex-Middlesbrough forward added: "For now, I think only of Siena. It is the first time that I have got to play an entire championship in Serie A and I am happy with how it is all going.

"Siena have allowed me to return to Italy and have given me the opportunity to get back into the limelight."
