Lyon's Grosso urges Italy to back Donadoni

Olympique Lyon fullback Fabio Grosso doesn't want Marcello Lippi to return to the Italy coaching setup.

Lippi has been linked with Roberto Donadoni's job, but Grosso, speaking after defeat to Spain last night, insisted: "I owe a great deal to Lippi and respect him, but I also respect Donadoni. He must do his work and then at the end of the day it is up to others to judge.

"Football is always analysed and dissected in the media, but we want to keep well out of it. We just want to prepare for a successful European Championship."

Grosso impressed in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Spain this evening and was disappointed to be felled by a David Villa volley 12 minutes from time.

"There are regrets as we put in a good game. We knew Spain were a great team and they won with this fantastic goal, but that's the way it goes.

"The Coach will make his choices and they will be respected."
