Olympique Lyon have confirmed goalkeeper Gregory Coupet is joining Atletico Madrid for £1 million.

The 35-year-old told the French champions he wanted to leave for the Spanish capital last month but the fee proved a stumbling block.

Atletico were unwilling to meet the 3million euros price tag stipulated in the player's contract to facilitate an early release from the contract which ran until 2010.

But Les Gones on Friday agreed to accept 1.5m, with the promise of an extra 500,000 euros if Coupet helps Atletico qualify for the Champions League in the next two seasons.
