Olympique Lyon have confirmed an approach from Real Madrid for striker Karim Benzema. Manchester United have been linked with the Frenchman, but Lyon chief Olivier Blanc revealed: "The only novelty is that Real Madrid contacted us a few days ago, to know the club's position regarding Karim Benzema.

"Benzema and Olympique Lyon have confirmed their initial desire is for him to continue here.

"We know that the player wants to stay one more year in Lyon and we want to keep him."
