Newcastle United have taken a step closer to signing Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon.
The French club initially rejected Newcastle's £7million offer for the 27-year old striker but reports suggest they will now accept the proposal.
Toon boss Alan Pardew, who is also keen on Aston Villa's Darren Bent and QPR's Loic Remy, is confident of bringing in some new faces prior to Tuesday's friendly with Scottish club Rangers.
"We're not concerned about any of our targets slipping away - we will pay what we think is the right price," he said.
"I'm hoping something happens before Rangers. I think that's a realistic deadline.
"We've always managed to get somebody over the line and I think we will this time."
