Lukaku has the world at his feet - Everton boss Martinez

Roberto Martinez believes Romelu Lukaku has everything ahead of him as he continues to come of age at Everton.

The Belgian striker scored his 17th league goal of the campaign as the Toffees defeated Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park on Tuesday night, prompting words of praise from his boss.

Apart from his Everton club-record for goals in a single season, Lukaku has developed into a quality person and leader at Goodison Park and Martinez is backing him to enjoy even more success as he matures further.

"His goal was a really pleasing moment because it means a lot but I'm more pleased about the responsibility he's developing this season," said Martinez.

"Rom is still a very young man, we forget he's still only 22, but I think the way he's developed as an individual has been terrific and the responsibility he's developed this season.

"The goalscoring has always been one of the biggest strengths for Rom but to see him growing in terms of what he does for the team is very pleasing.

"I felt his overall contribution was very good and I'm delighted for him to reach that level and I know from now until the end of the season he has that incredible focus to get that figure bigger as much as he can. But at 22 the world is clearly at his feet."
