Diego Lugano admits Liverpool striker Luis Suarez had an influence on his decision to sign with West Bromwich Albion.

The former PSG defender says he also spoke with Gus Poyet about moving to the Hawthorns.

Lugano beamed: "What did they say? Well, Suarez told me Liverpool got beaten twice by Albion last season, so that was a very good reference!

"Both he and Poyet said Albion play very good football and are a serious club which wants to accomplish something - and my first impression of the club is amazing.

"The references I got about Albion were just the best.

"Being in England and playing in the Premier League is just amazing for me. I'm very, very happy."
