Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu admits they attempted to sign Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon in the past.

The Italy international signed an extension with the Old Lady earlier this year.

Lucescu revealed: "We tried to sign Buffon. But then he renewed with Juve and that was the end of that.

"It would have been a superb signing for us, both on the pitch and our image off it."
