Lucas Leiva was proud to wear the Liverpool captain's armband in their 0-0 draw with Grasshoppers.
The Brazil midfielder was handed the captaincy on Roy Hodgson's debut.
Afterwards Lucas told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It was a great experience. I know a lot of senior players have yet to come back but I felt good because it shows the people at the club have confidence in me. I think I'm showing what I can do.
"To say it was the first game, I think we did well. The first half was really difficult because we still need to improve our fitness. The pace of the game was fast, but in the second half we did better.
"With more games we'll be better and better. We have been training a lot and there is no time to recover, but that's what it's about now - getting the fitness. Training is the most important thing right now."
