Luca Toni struck twice for Roma in their 3-0 defeat of Genoa.
The striker returned to Serie A on loan from Bayern Munich to boost his chances of making it to South Africa.
"I came here to play my hand. Lippi knows what I can do and we'll see what happens in June," said Toni.
"I wanted so much to do my 'ear' celebration under the Curva Sud. In the first half I missed a sitter, but then I scored at the second attempt. There is a great deal of enthusiasm here and I wanted to do well. I came here because I wanted to put myself back in the game.
"I think Roma is the right place for that. This is just the beginning."
