The Rossoblu failed to qualify for Europe, but have gone on a spending spree with the likes of Toni, Miguel Veloso, Eduardo, Rafinha and Franco Zuculini.
“Serie A remains the most difficult in Europe, especially on a tactical level,” insists the former Bayern Munich man.
“This is why sought-after stars like Veloso and Rafinha accepted the offer to come here and it’s also one of the reasons why I chose Genoa. If I was thinking only about money, then I’d have gone abroad.
“We need a little time to gel, but this team can comfortably challenge right behind the top four. The difference could be made in our start, as if we get off the blocks cleanly, we can fly on the wings of our enthusiasm.
“I have been very impressed with Eduardo, as he is really an excellent goalkeeper. I didn’t know him before, but he gives you a sense of security with his presence alone.”
